About VIgo

Vigo's goal

Vigo is a brand for fitness lovers who crave a product focused on their pre-workout guided fitness routine.

Design Overview

Vigo's split bodies make cleaning much easier.

Vigo's split bodies are easy to disassemble and clean. Any cleaning tools or extra effort are not necessary anymore.

Just slide it and drink!

Vigo's sliding lid supports one-hand action, which is easy to use during the workout. Stay hydrated with Vigo!

No more powder residue at the bottom!

Vigo's middle mesh in the body ensures easy-mixing and prevents leaving any powder residue.

The locking mechanism ensures leak-proof.

Vigo's lid has a locking mechanism that perfectly prevents leaking. Also, the mechanism can be used based on the situation and preferences. After a workout, the lid can be fully disassembled from the lid body and kept hygienic.

Problem

U.S. Reusable Water Bottle Market 2020-2030
At the intersection of the $8.9 billion water bottle and $15 billion pre-workout powder markets, we decided to design an innovative, new bottle catered to the pre-workout routines of fitness-enthusiastic women.
Let's discover and meet our users.

To identify the primary users of our products, we conducted observational research and user interviews at local gyms.

Based on the research, we discovered users and a trend among them:

Increasing of pre-workout consumption and supplements among women.

We gathered insights from them.

Based on the 30 in-depth interviews with fitness lovers, we collected the numerical data.

We deeply listened to the user's voice.

Insights

  1. Be more functional than other shaker bottles.

Current shaker bottles mostly focus on mixing protein. A bottle that can cover all the different powders is needed.

  1. Eye-catching design.

Based on the interviews and trend research, fitness lovers love taking photos of themselves and their accessories. An aesthetically pleasing design is needed.

Vigo aims to be a shaker bottle brand that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, that targets specific user group: fitness lovers who consume pre-workout supplements.

Initial prototypes

Split bodies for the main body of the shaker bottle, which makes cleaning much easier.

Three different types of lids are based on the different drinking styles.

Different patterns for the mixing mesh for easy mixing of the pre-workout powder.

USER TESTING

Let's go back to our users and ask them.

With the initial prototype, we went back to the gym and met our users to gather the insights. Here are some takeaways:

  1. Split bodies are interesting and look easy to clean.
  1. The sliding lid is the most preferred type.
  1. A handle is needed to carry around.
  1. Desire of the structure that can boost the powder mixing without any residue.

Primary design features

Bring it back to the user's actual journey.

Before making our final design decision, we brought the full-scale prototype to the users and asked them to bring it during their workout. Here are some takeaways:

  1. Users loved the big carabiner for the handle.
  1. Adding the rubber grip to the carabiner can be helpful.
  1. Making the locking mechanism secure and easy to use.

More prototypes based on user feedbacks.

FINAL PRODUCT

Vigo's manufacturing process

We did not stop our journey at designing. We also moved the project to an actual manufacturing discussion and started to build the business plan through communicating with manufacturers.

We've contacted and communicated with 10+ manufacturers in China. Based on that, we've built the manufacturing process map of our product.

Vigo is going to target the huge market.

Vigo is going to target the millions of fitness lovers concentrated in the metropolitan hubs like NYC, LA, and Chicago.

Vigo is going to be a successful business!

Based on the 5-year-financial plan, Vigo is going to be a successful business, and we can expect the business to expand.

  1. Do not hesitate to change the direction if there are better directions and more demands.

At the beginning of the project, we decided to focus only on the water bottle. However, as more interviews went on, we found that there is a demand for shaker bottles, which could differentiate our products from others. Therefore, we immediately changed the direction of the shaker bottle. Thus, we learned that we should not hesitate to change direction for better products.

  1. Bring the prototypes to the user journey and test them out.

During the project, we worked on prototypes for user testing. From every stage of user testing, we gathered insights that could refine our design. For the final prototype, we went back to the actual user journey and asked them to use the product. During that stage, we gathered insights into how users actually use our product and the pain points. Thus, we learned that bringing prototypes to the actual user journey can provide us with insights.
